New Bomb Turks – Pissing Out The Poison… – Review

New Bomb Turks

Pissing Out The Poison… (Crypt)
by Joshua Brown

The New Bomb Turks are everything they’re cracked up to be. They’re the carcinogens you voraciously take into your lungs; the discount keg beer that you drink until you can’t tell how gross it is, and then ’til you can’t count how many fingers you have; the threatening outcast that daddy’s girl sees in private when she wants to get away from her jockprep boyfriend. At least that’s their music. In reality, they’re four unassuming ex-college DJs from Columbus, OH with huge record collections. It was Midwest and East Coast rock ‘n’ rollers like the MC5, Stooges, and Pagans that inspired the New Bomb Turks to play raw, fast, and in touch with their working-class roots. Not since Motor City’s bad boys were in their heyday has anyone pulled off this sound so nice and caustic. Pissing Out The Poison compiles the New Bomb Turks’ singles, many of which are hard to find, demos, and unreleased tracks. Cover tunes include songs made famous by Blue, Hawkwind, NY Dolls, and Billy Childish.
