Swingin’ Utters – The Streets of San Francisco – Review

Swingin’ Utters

The Streets of San Francisco (New Red Archives)
by Joshua Brown

I don’t need to tell you why classic punk rock is cool. By now I’d hope you had decided for yourself. The U.K. Subs, DOA, and Chron Gen are only three of the bands who Swingin’ Utters derive their sound from. Lars Fredericksen of Rancid produced The Streets of San Francisco and his flair for reintroducing the old vibe makes for sheer authenticity. Swingin’ Utters are not a watered-down version of anything, and they’re not over or under-produced. They sound exactly the same as any of the bands in the genre who were around in the late ’70s, so you’d do just as well buying this one as the new Cockney Rejects reissue.
