Tori Amos – Boys For Pele – Review

Tori Amos

Boys For Pele (Atlantic)
by Cunt Rock Girl

“Dense listening.” That’s dense as in meaty, not stupid. This puppy is over 70 minutes long. There are no instant singles or clear pop hooks, but baby, I got a shiver; the same one I got from her past songs such as “Me and a Gun” and “Past The Mission.” Tori Amos doesn’t have to scream for my attention – the perfect quip to a silly remark only has to be whispered.

My advice to future listeners: Lsten to a few songs at a time. Take it from someone who’s listened to the whole disc four times in the past two days.

My personal favorite is the moving “Professional Widow.” Who knew a harpsichord would make a girl like me want to have sex? In the past, Ms. Amos has said that she tried to steal other boys’ fire. That may be true, but she truly has the thunder.
