Pure: Best of Techno Volume 6 – Review

Pure: Best of Techno Volume 6

by Joshua Brown

The “best of” series endeavors to document the more festive side of techno. Amid crescendos of shatterproof bubblestorms and breaks of reflective ambience lies an undercurrent ecstatic dance beat throughout all twelve tracks of Pure. Instead of blasting listeners into outer space or spiraling them into a dense, timeless void, this particular form of electronic music familiarizes one with the energy locked in the body and demystifies the subconscious so that images can flow and crystallize unfettered. That’s if you’re tuned in to that sort of thing and aren’t too turned off by the trendiness of the rave scene to appreciate its music. The players include the versatile Baby Doc who sways between operatic religiosity and Romeo Void-esque party freakout, and the ubiquitous Rabbit In The Moon whose masterful mixes and original material chisel further into your consciousness with each repetitious beat. Dream Plant create smart organic disco, and Fuzz DJ & Unit 700 transmute a scratchin’ rap groove into something radiant. Best of Techno Volume 6 moves from track to track like a river from village to village, so there are no accidents and each component is of equal value. Other contributing artists involved are Drax Ltd., Pleasant Chemistry, DJ Tim and Ortega, Steve Stoll, Union Jack, The Bubble, Dara and the Shooter, and Robert Armani.
