Gone – Best Left Unsaid – Review

Gone

Best Left Unsaid (SST)
by Scott Hefflon

Tense, dynamic, versatile instrumental music for post-punk hipsters after a tough day at the office. It ain’t the mind lozenge of, say, this lounge remodeling craze, nor is it the whispered sweet nothings of Top 40 radio; Gone is easy listening music for people who use a jackhammer all day. Percussion fused with jazz and funk, and hip hop “ruined” by Greg Ginn’s electronically distorted guitar whines and simple melodies. Ginn’s always been the best at making shitty-sounding, sloppily-played guitar work in the long run. Gorgeous bass and percussion mixed with gross guitars is a delicious, potent drink indeed.
