There’s more to San Diego than just the zoo, kiddies. There’s KOR, for instance. It’s not a ‘zine in the traditional sense or size (12″ x 9″); it’s a free (in San Diego), high-quality, entertainment paper that covers the San Diego scene. However, there are numerous articles and columns that anyone can enjoy regardless of their location. The writing is sharp and right on target. I particularly enjoyed the movie column – the reviews were both comprehensive and witty. The writer, Eric Johnson, definitely knows what he’s talking about. There’s a little bit of everything here: CD reviews (their focus is mostly punk), interviews (this issue profiles Pennywise), beautiful photography, articles, rants and club listings (San Diego area only). The layout is superb – they utilize a half-dozen different font styles, making each page stand out on its own. With their polished, professional look, KOR could be very successful if they ever decide to expand beyond their local area.
