Super Junky Monkey – Parasitic People – Review

Super Junky Monkey

Parasitic People (Tristar)
by Steve Tremain

Japanese pop it ain’t. Even if Super Junky Monkey is made up of four (very cute) Japanese girls, they rock harder than anything on our side of the puddle. I used to think that funk metal was a dead, bloated beast, that would occasionally let out noxious gasses if kicked hard enough. I was wrong. Parasitic People (Tristar Music) has taken the whole tired genre, boosted it up, and taken it out for a ride. Throwing in elements of totally fucked up guitar solos, manic Japanese rants, and a completely twisted title track with the emphasis on funk that will shake your walls, Super Junky Monkey makes you like their music. You want noise? They got it. You want thumping grooves? You got it. You want high-pitched, unintelligible vocals? They got it. You want a guitar solo that sounds like it’s playing in a different song? They got it. Parasitic People is an album that’s not afraid to have fun while stomping through the desiccating remains of funk metal. Now why can’t we do something this good?
