Gouds Thumb – Review

Goud’s Thumb

(Critique Records)

Straight out of Seatt- umm, I mean the Northwes- Oh, wait a second. OK, I got it, Goud’s Thumb are from around here. Funny, I would’ve sworn they were from some mythic flannel land. Just to set things straight, they’re great at what they do. What they do, however, is verge on Silverchair territory, and I don’t care how much radioplay Silverchair gets, they’ll always be second rate to me. The greats of grunge are dead, either physically, politically, or socially. The last thing we need is some local MA band trying to lug the carcass of an overblown post-punk offshoot around. All right, all right, I’ve been getting into their obvious Soundgarden, STP, and Nirvana ripoffs. They’re good at it, OK? If only they had been here about five years earlier, we could have changed the maps of grunge territory from West to East. Now, however, it’s too late.
