The Revelators

Versus: The Prozac-Poppin’ Whinin’ Sissies (Crypt)
by Joshua Brown

“Slick production has killed punk rock,” you say? How about its detrimental effect on rockabilly? Fortunately, there are still stompers like the Revelators whose recordings sound like their equipment was submerged in battery acid. The ’50s/early ’60s quality is authentic, although the songs tended to be more memorable way back when. (Check out the Born Bad compilation series, with many original songs later popularized by the Cramps).
