I’ve always been impressed that the ex-frontman of mod punk legends, the Jam and Style Council, can wind up sounding like Eric Clapton and actually pull it off. Though I have to admit there’s no “Cocaine” or “Wonderful Tonight” to be found here, Stanley Road, like Weller’s last solo album, Wild Wood, is appropriate for people who still dig the classic rock sound but want to hear songs they haven’t already heard 10,000 times before.
