Pernice Brothers – “Jimmy Coma” / “Monkey Suit” – Review

Pernice Brothers

“Jimmy Coma” / “Monkey Suit” (SubPop)
by Joshua Brown

SubPop used to be the ultimate singles label, but these days they’re looking pretty ignorable. This 7″ has put my faith back in SubPop, albeit temporarily. The Pernice Brothers play lazy jangle pop, like a hybrid of Scud Mountain Boys and Beck fighting his way through a Xanax stupor. The vocals are excellent, and the tight, though minimal, instrumentation suggests that these guys could probably do just about anything.
