Dead Boys – Younger, Louder & Snottier – Review

Dead Boys

Younger, Louder & Snottier (Bomp!)
by Scott Hefflon

Released a few years ago in Europe, this version of the ’77 punk classic Young, Loud & Snotty has become legendary itself. Supposedly “mastered” from a studio mix taped over The Who’s Quadrophenia, Younger… is finally available without the gouging Import-Only prices. This sucker has always been a standard-setting self-destructive punk album, bringing out the raw, throat-shredding vocals of Stiv Bator and the fuck-overdubs guitarwork and skin-bashing of the Dead Boys. Sure, there’s a ton of high end, hiss, tape-fluctuation (kinda cool on CD), and practically no bass, but Younger… represents an aesthetic producers are now spending bundles trying to emulate. If you don’t already have the import, get this. Now.
