Old Man’s Child – Born of the Flickering – Review

Old Man’s Child

Born of the Flickering (Century Media)
by Scott Hefflon

Norwegian Black Metal, but from a different school of thought than the rest. Going for the slower, more sweepingly melodic bridges and choruses, yet still full-tilt hyperspeed the rest of the time, Old Man’s Child deserves better than their clunky name. Layered snarling vocals, guitar solos that really sing during the solos, and a reserved use of keyboards (played like an ace up the sleeve), Born of the Flickering is an inspiring record, amazing, in fact, when you discover it’s their debut. Oh yeah, this one’s going to be in my CD player for a while.
