The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs – Overdrive – Review

The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs

Overdrive (Alive)
by Chaz Thorndike

When punk had the word “rock” attached to it more frequently than “pop,” there was a slash and burn style best exemplified by the Dead Boys. “I’m a” and “I Want” lyrics shouted/growled over raw-sounding, raunchy-blues-based rock, yet with the melody of, say, roots rock. Overdrive has old-style urban punk angst mixed in with Thundering guitar and a brawling attitude like we don’t see much these days. From violent chants of “Disease! Disease!” that make Anthrax sound like sissies, to solos that’d make Angus Young proud, The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs are here to kick your ass.
