Hi-Standard – Angry Fist – Review

Hi-Standard

Angry Fist (Fat)
by Rich Romaine

While not as goofy as last year’s Growing Up with covers of the Bay City Roller’s “Saturday Night” and Rainbow’s “Since You Been Gone,” Angry Fist does hold its own with The Nolans’ “Gotta Pull Myself Together” and CCR’s “Have You Ever Seen The Rain,” not to mention originals like “My Sweet Dog.” How can you not sing along to the over-caffeinated, harmonized chorus of “I don’t want to clean up fuckin’ dog shit/ Again today I rubbed your nose in dog shit?” The songs all log in around two minutes, and that includes all guitar solos, breaks, bridges, choruses, intros, and extros. Angry Fist is as non-stop punch-packing as its title suggests. As quick-tempoed, melodic, and well-produced (courtesy of Ryan Greene) as we’ve come to expect from Fat Wreck Chords. (p.s. The hidden bonus of “The Pink Panther Theme” would be great for mixed tapes.)
