Something to Listen To
by Rich Romaine

Breaking into the Boston scene recently are a group of Woburnians called One. While I’m often cautious of dealing with non-city bands, One uses the setting to their advantage. With a dash of Live and a hint or two of Violent Femmes, the songs stroll through their easy paces. The production beautifully captures every subtlety and nuance of the guitars and twangy vocals. Although sensitive to the point of being whiney, singer Gabe Chalpin has a great, expressive voice. The lyrics will touch anyone who remembers the pain of growing up or failed relationships. While still in their early stages, bands lamer than this have gone on world tours. Middle-of-the-road acoustic rock with sensitive lyrics. It ain’t exactly my style but some people really dig this stuff.
