Birmingham, Alabama’s retro/modern garage-rock band conjures lush lo-fi grooves, invokes Stones-like melodies, and fills in the cracks with ambient putty. The heavy pop and sweet boy-girl harmony mixture on their first full-length reminds me of Pixies-era Frank Black and Kim Deal even though Verbena‘s dragging Southern sound is decidedly un-Pixie. The Rolling Stones with feedback.
