They say the ’80s are coming back. Well, it all depends on what part of them are coming. I’d rather not have a second helping of Tiffany, Milli Vanilli, or Rick Astley, thanks. But what about a blend of Curve, My Bloody Valentine, and the Cranes? That would do nicely, and Swoon 23 seem to have the scoop on that stuff. Drone, distortion, candy coated female vocals, throaty male vocals, swirling shoegazing syrupy goodness. But just like then, I’d rather have the ompheloskeptic wonder of it all as an at-home experience. Remember when you went to see Ride and no one moved for two hours? Yeah, it’s like that. Now be careful with this nostalgia thing, folks. Let’s not see the resurrection of Jesus Jones, okay?
