Junkie XL – Saturday Teenage Kick – Review

Junkie XL

Saturday Teenage Kick (Roadrunner)
by Rowan-Morrison

It’s Rage Against The Electronica! Holland-based studio guru Tom Holkenborg has enlisted the aid of Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares and Urban Dance Squad’s throatman Rude Boy to transform the club scene into a clubbing scene with their brutal rumpshakers. Even with the current wave of beat-heavy Chemical brothers and sisters, such as Apollo Four Forty, Fluke, Headrillaz, Propellerheads, and Supersonic, Junkie XL have the most potential to knock Prodigy off the charts. Melding breakbeats and samples with chunky riffs and a ranter on the mic, Junkie XL walk a line close to the Germany-based rock-‘n’-rap Headcrash, but with a heavier lean toward the cyberdance camp. Due to the bandwagon effect that follows every Rolling Stone cover model, it’s always nice when a band finds a way out of the dopplegänger garden, as is the case with these technocore technicians. Spin “Underachievers” or “Billy Club” at your local rave and watch the Evian mix with pit-propelled blood.
