Mainesthai
Out to Lunch (Metropolis)
by Chris Best
The story goes like this (sorta): Mentallo And The Fixer record under a different name with a friend of theirs singing. The sound of the band was to be harsh but more “melodic” and “human.” To give them credit, Mainesthai are more melodic and human than MATF. The music reminded me of Skinny Puppy with some PiL and the slower tunes Duran Duran did on their first three albums. Where it falls short is in the execution. With the exception of the songs “Therapy” and “Spectral,” I couldn’t get into this. I was disappointed because what they’re trying to do is exactly what is needed in the scene, not to mention that Mentallo And The Fixer are fuckin’ awesome.
