Hard Nuts and Hard Cunts (Broken Rekids)

When this CD came into Lollipop, the name alone urged me to open it. Then I saw that they hail from England, and, well, I have a thing for Brit. punk. As I put Hard Nuts and Hard Cunts in the player, someone in the room said, “With a name like that, they better live up to it.” And they do. Chanting “Oi!” in every song, their street-punk lyrics address the skinhead scene, beer, the system, factories, and, of course, girls (or as they put it – birds). Yes, it’s 1998, not 1978, and this is nothing new, original, or innovative, but you know what? It still fuckin’ rocks. Most memorable songs: “Oi! Not Jobs,” “Fax of Life,” and “Beer and Fags” (the chorus of which is, “For all the shit, for all the dear departed, for all the war, we still got beer.”). That said, skip your job today, have a pint, piss off your neighbors, and play Hard Skin really loud. Oi!
