Obituary – Dead – Review

Obituary

Dead (Roadrunner)
by Paul Lee

There really isn’t a hell of a lot that needs to be said about Obituary‘s live album, Dead. There’s no other death metal outfit that sounds like ’em or will ever equal this mighty Floridian quintet. Dead is an excellent testament to the unbridled nastiness that Obituary has created for these many years. Recorded at Axis in Boston, the recording and performance is phenomenally clear and brutal. No one, I repeat, not a single band, sounds like Obituary with their signature chord progressions, fucking low-tuned guitars, ominous and slow rumbles and John Tardy’s unbelievably painful vocal work. If you’re an Obituary addict, you need this disc. If you love death metal and haven’t been turned on to Obituary, get off your ass, grab this live disc, grab the back catalog, and get a death metal education.
