Princess Superstar – CEO – Review

Princess Superstar

CEO (A Big Rich Major Label)
by Steve Tremain

A fly white girl from NYC via Pennsylvania throws down an Estro-Beastie-Indie concept album (almost). CEO takes a spin on the typical “I gots money, bee-yatch” and throws it into the corporation. Songs like “I Got to Get A Loan With You,” “Supersize the Downsize,” and “Stuck in a 401-K Hole” pretty much give you an idea of what she’s going for. But the music, part live, part mixed, is what gets to me. Powder traces of the Dust Brothers’ eclectic collage (Snap, Taco, Rolling Stones, and Van Halen are just a few of the recognizable samples included) mixed with some clever lines (“Showin’ off the big gulp in his pants/tryin’ to make romance,” “I’m so old school, you’d think my system’s metric”) makes for a powerful combination. Even though she disses Boston throughout “Cold Tea, LLC” you should pick up CEO so you can be as cool as those who were listening to Paul’s Boutique before Check Your Head.
