Shadow Project – From the Heart – Review

Shadow Project

From the Heart (Hollows Hill)
by Angela Dauthi

This album is important for two reasons: One, having originally formed in the late ’80s, Shadow Project marks a strong step forward for the (at the time) growing Goth/Death Rock scene, and is used as a “back in the day” reference when playing cooler-than-thou mind games while smoking clove cigarettes (the founders are Eva 0 [Super Heroines, Halo Experience] and Rozz Williams [Christian Death]), so a new album is important to have to keep status. Two, Rozz Williams has gone the way of Ian Curtis and Michael Hutchence. That is, he hung himself (on April Fool’s Day, no less). “But,” you ask, “What about the music?” Ummm… Melodramatic, quiet, usually acoustic, obsessed with God (pro, not con)… Tell you the truth, Williams’ work with EXP is much more interesting. This isn’t a terrible album, but they’ve both done better.
