The B-52’s – Time Capsule – Review

The B-52’s

Time Capsule (Reprise)
by Rich Romaine

Sixteen classic songs (including the “original unreleased mix” of “Summer of Love”) and two new tunes, “Debbie” (a tribute to Debbie Harry) and “Hallucinating Pluto,” make The B-52’s Time Capsule more than just a great greatest hits record. For those who only know “Rock Lobster,” “Private Idaho,” and “Love Shack,” perhaps Time Capsule can fill in the blanks. More than your average “quirky” band, The B-52’s have a long history of dancy pop, gorgeous harmonies, punchy guitarwork, and clever wordplay, starting in ’77 and continuing to the present. The two new songs are as good as the vintage tracks, complete with all the hooks and horseplay we’ve come to expect from a band that is practically synonymous with the word “alternative.”
