Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited – The Fluid Soundbox – Review

Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited

The Fluid Soundbox (Mai Tai)
by Scott Hefflon

Forty minutes of pure instrumental joy! Swiss composers Ernest Maeschi and Karen Diblitz have the distinct talent of writing theme music that’s been used in movies, on TV, in commercials, and piped in while you wait in line at Disneyland. On par with ’60s greats for their Spy-Sci-Fi-Surf-Western stylings, this time out, the otherworldly team also experiments with drum loops, samples, and tape effects. And no, it doesn’t sound like the Chemical Brothers. The Fluid Soundbox lives up to its name – a timeless, sonically rich album that transports you to a windswept ghost town, a grimy back alley in a mob-run city, a mad scientist’s secret hidaway, or an Austin Power-esque “happening” with all the birds gyrating and whooping in their fur-trimmed minis. Screw frequent flyer miles – you can’t travel through space and time for less than the cost of this CD. Get it and freak out, baby!
