Custom Made Scare – The Greatest Show on Dirt – Review

Custom Made Scare

The Greatest Show on Dirt (Side One Dummy)
by Scott Hefflon

Yahoo, motherfucker! While I’d tenderly bash any piss-ant punk band for writing typical chordage of the genre and boasting various bad-ass claims, there ain’t much throwdown psychobilly ’round, so ya gotta make the most of whatcha got. Custom Made Scare ain’t no Speedealer, but they sure wipe the floor with Setzer’s pompadour. With song titles like “Wake Up and Smell the Gunpowder” and “Sick, Sober and Sorry,” (a cover) you get the gist. A laugh a minute, and paces that’re like J.D. chased with Jolt. With 11 songs logging in at under 20 minutes, you don’t have to be too good at math to see what yer gettin’. With hints of rockabilly greats and barroom classics (thinkin’ Johnny Cash-meets-Darby Crash, I got the ephedrine, who’s got the tequila?), the songs are over too quickly to dissect, but who wants to? Get this, crank the shit outta it, and bitchslap anyone who doesn’t like it.
