Mindset Overhaul – Review

Mindset Overhaul

(Wreck-Age/Exit)
by Tim Den

I was expecting nothing but knuckle-headed, muscle-bound, tough guy-core here, but damn was I wrong (this happens too often these days). Not that Mindset Overhaul is a pussyfest; not even close. In fact, it’s thirty songs of skull-crushing hardcore from some of New York’s finest (and most respected) hooligans. Hell, there’s hardly any bad bands on here. You’ve got the metal crunch of Indecision, the psychotic mayhem of Milhouse (whose singer recently joined Indecision), the technical destruction of Sons of Abraham (possibly my favorite here), the Quicksand-esque drive of Mind Over Matter. And the list goes on. What else can you possibly ask for? OK, how about the neo-Rollins rumble of Stillsuit? Or the melodic chokehold of Silent Majority? There’re so many great songs here, I can’t even begin to name them all. Now I have to spend all my money buying all of these bands’ albums.
