Cork – Speed of Thought – Review

Cork

Speed of Thought (Lightyear)
by Jon Sarre

Ever wonder what happened to the Spin Doctors? Me neither, but it turns out that Eric “Annoying Grinning Dwarf” Schenkman hooked up with Corky “Leslie West is rolling in his grave about now” Laing of Mountain fame cuz someone doubtlessly owed someone else a record (contractual obligations, they call it). Cork, they dub their collaboration cuz a) it’s Laing’s nickname, b) it’s what Schenkman misunderstood the most oft-flung greeting hurled his way (dork) to be, c) it’s the material used in most wine stoppers and plenty ended up being thrown on the studio floor, mostly to ensure the participation of once-Hendrix sideman Noel Redding (and after a few bottles, Redding was prone to regaling Schenkman with humorous anecdotes he referred to as “Jimi Stories,” all of which had the same punchline, “And you, sir, are no Jimi Hendrix!”), d) it’s a port city in Ireland and somebody thought that would be clever.
