Writings On Glass

Essays, Interviews, and Criticism
Edited & Introduced by Richard Kostelanetz (University of California Press 372 pp. $17.95)

Richard Kostelanetz does an admirable job in pulling together a cohesive representation of Philip Glass through the individual collective of the critic’s eye. Especially attractive are the pieces that examine Glass’ three major operas: “Einstein On The Beach,” “Satyagraha,” “Akhnaten,” and the brilliant “Koyaanisqatsi.” The series of reviews and essays which span the past three decades of Glass’ career serves as a comprehensive and willing companion to the musician’s own autobiography of a decade earlier.
