Meg Lee Chin – Piece and Love – Review

Meg Lee Chin

Piece and Love (Invisible)

Awesome. I expected nothing less from the woman whose voice made Martin Atkins cry. Though definitely pop, her songs are harsh and in no way compromising. After listening, I knew exactly why she didn’t become the singer for Garbage (she auditioned and almost got the gig). Her presence is more than a mere figurehead or interesting personality, she’s a force to be noticed.

The songs themselves are some of the best electronic pop I’ve heard this decade. The sad thing is, these songs won’t get airplay. What’s more interesting is that she didn’t use a lot of equipment, only her guitar, amp, a keyboard, and a sampler. I review tons of bands that can’t get a fraction of the sound she has without a roomful of gear. In addition, she recorded the album in her apartment. Of course, that’s not saying much these days with all the affordable gear, but you get the idea. Buy this and know exactly what’s missing these days in alternative pop.
