Tilt – Viewers Like You – Review

Tilt

Viewers Like You (Fat)
by Scott Hefflon

It’s a punk band that doesn’t sing about girls. Lead vocalist, Cinder Block (a girl, in case you didn’t know), has one of the most powerful voices in punk, so don’t get any cutesy images of, like, No Doubt or Dance Hall Crashers. She’s like Pat Benetar, balls-out, passionate, and more than likely pissed off. While I applaud Tilt for pushing the boundaries of the genre with strong lyrical imagery about important stuff (society’s ills and prejudices and various political stuff), yet maintaining a pretty constant peppy pace so fans can dance with abandon, I have to say I like older Tilt material better. Wisdom and an increasingly metallic guitar sound make the band a little heavy-handed for me. I kinda liked it when I’d rock out to a song, only later to realize it was about something.
