Outcast/ Zao split – Review

Outcast/Zao

split (Steadfast)
by Tim Den

This is a reissue of the old split that marked the debut of both bands. Zao went on to morph into a deadly, moody machine, while Outcast never survived beyond this outing. Both bands sound very young on this under-produced disc, with high-end flying everywhere and no warm lows to be found. You can tell both bands were listening to way too much Metallica at the time, because all you really get after listening to this is how hard they palm-muted and yelled. This split is perhaps necessary for diehard fans, but I suggest getting the last Zao full-length for some serious punishment.
