Satanic Surfers used to sound much like their Burning Heart labelmates, No Fun at All and Millencolin – fast, fun, catchy, and kinda dippy but cool. Then they went political, and now they’re angrier, less poppy, and sound kinda like a lot of the mid-’90s Fat catalog of rampaging, start/stop, technically-impressive punk with a lot of heart. Being self-produced, it’s got a thick sound, not overly polished, and the snare has a distinctive thwack! that’s kinda cool, but can get on yer nerves.
