Union 69 – Holiday 2000 – Review

Union 69

Holiday 2000 (Bad Afro)
by Jon Sarre

Union 69, possibly heralding a new sub-trend in the “scene,” tho’ based somewhere in Sweden, is partly peopled by a couple Americans, Hollywood expats, in fact, weathermen-who-know-which-way-the-wind-blows Drew Horner and Jay Morales. Apparently, the duo moved up thataways back in ’93 for the women, but hit paydirt of sorts in the wake of ScanExplosion ’99. They got a pretty full-bore sound, tho’ it’s not that much different from what passes for OC punk. Sleaze’n’surf are the main points of departure for most of the generic products of the punkrock quickie mart – there’s a song about Ron Jeremy, one called “The King of Sleaze,” there’s “Don’t Jack My Fuck,” the sorta funny “Haunted Surf Shack,” plus they throw in the occasional raunchy sax supplied by some guy who’s a “famous Swedish dance band musician,” which may mean he’s jammed with ABBA, I dunno.
