Corporation 187 – Subliminal Fear – Review

Corporation 187

Subliminal Fear (Wicked World/Earache)
by Scott Wilcox

Corporation 187 is a modern Swedish death/thrash band that brings the glory days of ’80s extreme music crashing into the present. It’s no surprise that four of its five members played together in a Slayer cover band… Their debut album, Subliminal Fear, plays like Reign In Blood for the new millennium: A nonstop half-hour of speed and aggression, enough hooks to make each song unforgettable, and guitars solos that are manic and almost completely devoid of melody. A new element is that the music has a dirty, industrial feel that gives it freshness but doesn’t overpower the overall sound. The vocals are more hardcore than death metal, reinforcing their link to the past. These guys epitomize the best of the Swedish metal scene and show the uneducated that not every band from over there embraces the Gothenburg sound. Once again, Wicked World has given us another young, energetic band that makes the future look bright for metal.
