Another Society 1 CD to pass on… I interviewed Matt Zane one time, about a decade ago, because he had plans to make porn videos be less awful by including dirtbikes and skateboards and fun alternative shit. He made pornos that were 1% less terrible, so I stopped paying attention. Nothing worse than a good idea in an idiot’s hands. Ditto with his “industrial metal” band and spoken word and aspiration for being a messiah, pariah, or some other religious word he fancies cuz he doesn’t know what it actually means. In L.A., you can travel with an entourage. That means people with nothing to do and nothing to offer who are even dumber than you follow you around, telling you how cool you are. The danger, of course, is that when you have lousy ideas, people tell you they rock and you should totally do it. Society 1 is terrible, shallow, and not shocking. They wouldn’t even make a good W.A.S.P. tribute band.
