Finger Eleven – The Greyest of Blue Skies – Review

Finger Eleven

The Greyest of Blue Skies (Wind up)
by Scott Hefflon

From the folks who brought us Creed (yeah, thanks), Finger Eleven is hard rock for people who don’t know any better. With the usual vocal roar and simple, heavy guitar, The Greyest of Blue Skies is the follow up to the debut that evidently sold over 100,000 copies. All that means to me is that a lot of people don’t know shit. These guys appeared on the soundtrack to Scream 3, but so did Creed (I think their song played twice, and far too long each time, and I like [hate] the subtle placing of Creed’s shirtless poster in the background of Syd’s bedroom – whores!), and if yer a geek like me, you remember Boston’s own Birdbrain got that priority slot on Scream 2 and look where it got them. And I liked them. Their “Ballad of Johnny Love” (the dark story of wanting to be in a band all yer life, then when you get it, realizing what a dumb fuckin’ dream it was to’ve wasted yer life on and now what’re you gonna do?) haunts me to this day. Oh, Finger Eleven? Whatever. If you’re into this faux-hard rock stuff – aside from die, die die! – feel free to rush your dumb ass down to the store and buy this and every other over-hyped, under-talented band being so crammed down your throat you forget to look around and make a goddamn decision for yourself.
