Iron Fire – Thunderstorm – Review

Iron Fire

Thunderstorm (Noise)
by Scott Hefflon

Iron Fire are Danish kids hoping to follow in the footsteps of their idols, Helloween, Gamma Ray, etc. They won some sorta fan-voted contest to see if Noise should release the record in the states, and I guess there are a lot of people who can’t tell the difference between good songwriters and cover bands cuz here’s the product of the contest. Simply put, these kids are fans of the genre and have yet to really understand what to do with it other than just pound away at the clichés. Not to bag on them too hard cuz the same goes for most nü metal bands (and even worse, the “heavy alternative” bands – in a word, Creed – who write horrid radio rock and make the guitars sound thick so people consider that hard rock or something, ugh!) who really oughtta be told “Look, it’s not that yer bad, it’s just that you aren’t really doing anything. Stay a cover band or suffer in obscurity until you develop your own style or give the fuck up.” Trouble is, radio plays sub-standard, non-challenging music cuz that’s who pays their bills and most writers are too scared to call a spade a spade (or a shit band a shit band) cuz they’ll get dropped from the promo lists or because they’re told to fawn cuz there’s an ad in it, but until shit is called shit, the stink’ll remain.
