The Forsaken – Manifest of Hate – Review

The Forsaken

Manifest of Hate (Century Media)
by Tim Den

Rather impressive debut from these Swedish newcomers. Citing all the proper influences (though “the songwriting wit of Arch Enemy and the obscure atmospheric twists of Morbid Angel” are nowhere to be found), The Forsaken play Swe-Death that’s based primarily in Dissection’s single-string-grind theory. Lots of blastbeats, lots of shredded notes, and a production sound that’s bursting at the seams (not necessarily a good thing… the album sounds like someone turned up the levels too high and peaked all the instruments into a blur) are what The Forsaken specialize in, which means this is for you if the recent Dissection rarities comp just wasn’t enough. If you’re looking for more melodic stuff however (since The Forsaken are much more interested in grinding than paying attention to pesky classical progressions), I suggest picking up Extol.
