Burnt By The Sun – Review

Burnt By The Sun

(Relapse)
by Tim Den

Hardcore kids can’t play metal. How many more bands do we need to prove the point? Burnt By The Sun harbors all the enthusiasm and none of the focus that grindcore/tech metal requires, just like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, every-band-on-Hydra Head, etc. The speed riffing is meaningless cuz it accomplishes nothing; trying to shock with its tempo when it should be incorporating substance. Any monkey can play fast, kids. Bands like Burnt By The Sun just don’t understand that, even though it works fine for teenage hardcore bands, sheer velocity and audio onslaught doesn’t make a decent band. Songwriting does. And a vocalist who doesn’t sound like an Earth Crisis cover band.
