Total War – We Are – Review

Total War

We Are… (Necropolis)
by Scott Hefflon

This is War’s Total War and We Are War combined. The band, now that they’ve broken up and the label and certain band members are done squabbling, is called Total War, due to legal blah blah blah in the U.S.. Not that it much matters cuz most people into this stuff know what this is anyhow. Brutal, straight-ahead, old-school, necro-style black metal with no keyboards, few variations in breakneck pace and “slavering demon” vocal style, the product of some of the most respected names in underground black metal. Each member is in multiple bands to satisfy the hatred that burns inside them, and Total War claws away at your senses, even if you’re used to hatred dripping like battery acid into your stomach every second of every day. 14 songs, 34 minutes, all hate, all the time. For the uninitiated, members are from Hypocrisy, Lock Up, Pain, Abyss, In Aeturnum, Infernal, Necrophobic, ex-Dark Funeral, ex-Marduk, Alagion, Abruptum, and Opthalamia. Get this cuz the originals are no longer available.
