Like those brief and shining moments when the hottie bassist in Teen Idols offers up a lead vocal, The Eyeliners are three tough ’50s-style chickies who look good in leather pants and leopard prints and crank out 12 tracks (in 27 minutes) of classic Ramones/The Queers/Screeching Weasel three-chord-punk-with-pretty-guitar-intro. Ben Weasel even does a duet (he was recorded separately and no one bothered to tell him he’s sharp), like Joe Queer’s often pedestrian duets with cub’s Lisa Marr. Lyrically, it’s nice to hear about love and loss from a woman’s perspective (no, not Top 40 surface-skimming, but kinda sappy poppunk style by girls instead of crybaby boys), especially over a head-bopping beat. Sure, it all kinda blends together, but seeing as it’s pleasant listening, that’s not really such a bad thing, huh? Oh, and it’s produced by Ryan Greene, so it sounds smoothly rawkus, like everything else he produces.
