Park Avenue Music – To Take with You – Review

Park Avenue Music

To Take with You (Devil in the Woods/Sugar Free)
by Lex Marburger

Very pretty. Park Avenue Music sound like Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins) learned how to speak English and decided to front Sneaker Pimps, but only if Massive Attack produced. Translation? Slow beats, airy vocals, heavy bass, but wrapped very tightly. Tight like uptight intellectual stuff. The kinda stuff that goes over big in NYC bars. Plenty of string pads to tie it all together. Extensive use of “small sounds” – the kind of noises you can’t identify, and don’t have much punch, but rather flit about in the stereo field, like musical butterflies. Mmmmm. Butterflies. Don’t you just love seeing five to ten butterflies wafting about in a warm summer breeze, as you lie on your back in the grass, staring at the clouds? Hey, wake up. You’re missing everything.
