The Real McKenzies – Loch’d & Loaded – Review

The Real McKenzies

Loch’d & Loaded (Honest Don’s)
by Scott Hefflon

‘Bout time these guys got some recognition! I reviewed their self-titled release on the long-defunct IFA label in issue #19 and that was the last I heard of them. But when the Dropkick Murphys started making noise ’round here (that’s Boston, thanks, where DKM call home), I played open-eyed punkers my The Real McKenzies CD, and they were duly impressed. I too am Scottish (hard-drinkin’, quick-tempered, cheap, fiercely independent, knobby knee’d), but most of the world could care less that the Irish get shitty and play bagpipes and fight’n’shit, and Scots get pissed and play bagpipes out in some swamp or something but’ll bareknuckle with the best of ’em. Scrappy little fuckers we are. The Real McKenzies are Canadian, cuz hell, Scots had to migrate somewhere… And leave it to the Scots to go “up,” eh?
