The Black Sea – Review

The Black Sea

(Lovitt)
by Tim Den

Two ex-members of Frodus and Joe Lally from Fugazi = a mercurial debut EP from The Black Sea. The strengths of all the aforementioned bands are here: DC staccato (opener “Ghost Lanterns,” one of my favorite songs of ’02), eerie whispers (“Wingless Fire”), and droning post-hardcore (“Landscapes”) make up a band that seems normally indie at first, but a complex and unpredictable beast when examined closer. Supposedly, the band’s full-length-in-progress takes yet more experimental approaches to the ol’ DC formula. I can hardly wait.
