The Flaming Sideburns – Sky Pilots – Review

The Flaming Sideburns

Sky Pilots (Jetset)
by Craig Regala

Dunno if it’s named after the Eric Burdon tune, but hell, it could be, ya know? Totally sunny rock and roll that’s gonna remind you of your grandad’s scratchy copy of The Stones’ Between the Buttons, The Creation’s early Mod power pop (Who-style) singles, and other tangy stuff that has a hundred-year shelf life. Not too far off from their Northern European peers, The Hellacopters and Soundtrack Of Our Lives. Well-written songs, no heavier than classic Faces/Rod Stewart, and none the less for it. Tambourines, phased/backwards guitar, organ fills, acoustic guitar fattening the sound – they got it down. Are you up for it? Suggested covers: Dead Boys’ “Won’t Look Back” and The Flamin’ Groovies’ “Headin’ for the Texas Border.”
