Elegant… and Dying (The End)

There are a lot of music critics out there who are a little weary of the ways of Australian classic/dark/Gothic act Virgin Black. Where do they fit in? Is there method to their creativity? How do I describe this music? In a nutshell, there’s really no better way to understand the beauty of the band’s eclectic ways other than to sit back, throw on some headphones, and zone out. It will come. The notion that Virgin Black are making an effort to try new things, expand their creative process, and not fall into any specific category is worthy of praise in my book. Hell, I’m still trying to wrap myself around some of the arrangements on Elegant… and Dying, but the fact is I keep coming back to it. Anyone who’s ever loved the work of Dead Can Dance, Amber Asylum, and Trial of The Bow are no doubt going to be drawn to this release. And for those who’re unsure, take a gamble.
