Love Like Blood – Chronology of a Love Affair – Review

Love Like Blood

Chronology of a Love Affair: 1985 – 1990 – 1995 – 2000 (The End)
by Scott Hefflon

Oh, it’s a tribute to dark music faves from over the last 20 years performed by Love Like Blood. So, like, it’s a comp, only it’s one band doing all the songs, or, better yet, it’s a Goth rock cover band’s CD. Yipee. I’m not much of a fan of Love Like Blood, though various reviews and bios seem to insist I should be, simply because they seem kinda straight-ahead, plodding, pretentious, and dull. I like their choice of covers, broken up into five-year increments from 1980 to 2000, showing the motion leading from Joy Division, Bauhaus, the Cure, and Sisters of Mercy to Type O Negative and Marilyn Manson. Along the way, highlights are hit (and missed): Christian Death, The Mission, The Cult, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Fields of the Nephilim, themselves, Killing Joke, Paradise Lost, Lacrimosa, and Tiamat.
