Scarlet – Cult Classic – Review

Scarlet

Cult Classic (Ferret)
by Adrian Bromley

On every record, Scarlet seems to offer a line or two in the lyrics that sums up the attitude and emotion of the album. On their debut full-length for Ferret, lead singer Jonathan Spencer screams “If you want love, you can buy love/everyone is for sale.” A simple line, but in the context of the chaotic noisecore momentum swirling around it, it truly makes an impact. Championed by many since their formation, Scarlet have grown in leaps and bounds, and no doubt Cult Classic will lay a solid foundation for the band to work off in the years to come. Unlike many in this genre who follow blueprints to create their music, Scarlet have their own agenda and ideas to push things forward.
